Variety is proud to be a Tournament Charity Partner of the Principal Charity Classic! PCC has helped Variety provide more than 165 specialized pieces of mobility equipment to children living with special needs, and continues to be an outstanding partner in improving the lives of Iowa’s children. These pieces of specialized equipment help each child gain strength, while still having fun.

Five-year-old Louise received her specialized bike last year at the Principal Charity Classic thanks to long-time Principal Charity Classic volunteers and Variety supporters, Carl and Sally Harris.

Louise has spent the last year riding her bike and gaining strength! Louise's mom shared this update with us: "Louise has truly relished in having her own big, pink bike!  The timing of receiving her bike last summer when we moved out of our condo and into a home was ideal.  It’s been so fun to be able to hop on her bike and hit the bike trail that is right behind our house.  We have enjoyed many family walks to the park - too far for Louise to walk, but just the right distance for a bike ride!

Louise is so patient as we get her safely strapped in and is always mindful of wearing her helmet. Her ability to steer herself has improved greatly over the last year!  Sharing the trail with other runners, walkers, and bikers has given us lots of opportunities to practice “left" and “right”.

I think one of Louise’s favorite features of her bike is being able to tote her younger sister around! Edie loves to hop on the back of the bike or help steer her big sister! Everyone we pass on our walks offers Louise and our family warm smiles and impressed comments about her bike - she’s always exuding that “hot shot” energy as she cruises around the neighborhood!  She has gained so much independence on it and it frees us up to enjoy our walks knowing that Louise is able to safely and happily ride her bike! Thank you again for such a generous gift!"

Donations made through Principal Charity Classic's Birdies for Charity help support Variety's mobility program, so more children like Louise can experience the life-changing effects of a specialized bike or other piece of mobility equipment! Donate here to make a lasting difference.

Variety also volunteers at hole 7 throughout the Principal Charity Classic (May 31 - June 2). Volunteers are needed on the tee, landing, and green on each day of the tournament. This is a great way to get involved with Variety and witness award-winning PGA TOUR Champions golf! All volunteers receive:

  • Official PCC Polo and your choice of a hat or visor
  • Free entry to the tournament throughout the entire weekend
  • PCC clear bag
  • Two one-day tickets to share with family or friends.
  • Food during your shift(s)
  • Access to the pre-PCC volunteer party and opportunity to win prizes throughout the weekend!
