St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, IA received funding from a Variety Grant to purchase pediatric emergency equipment including: three pediatric crash carts stocked with supplies, updated resuscitation equipment, and handheld ultrasound devices designed for emergent medical assessments of pediatric patients. Additionally, the grant will fund training and education to ensure optimal use of the new equipment, enhancing the hospital's ability to provide quality care to pediatric patients.

The new pediatric crash carts will be distributed across the hospital's Emergency Department, Surgery Department, and inpatient pediatric unit, ensuring timely and specialized care for young patients. These carts are specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of pediatric patients, with size-appropriate tools and equipment that align with children's weight and developmental stages.

Over 1,000 pediatric patients come through our Emergency Department each year, and they require specialized equipment related to their size,” said Sara Gonnerman, Vice President of Patient Services. “These color-coded carts are more organized, provider and nurse-friendly, and designed to ensure faster, safer care for our patients. On behalf of St. Anthony, we extend a heartfelt thank you to Variety – the Children’s Charity for making this critical upgrade in pediatric care possible for patients in our communities.
