Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa announced its 24th annual Polo on the Green event, previously scheduled for Aug. 8, 2020 at Powder River Ranch, has been canceled. In lieu of hosting an in-person event, Variety is conducting a month-long fundraiser throughout July to continue raising funds for Iowa children in need.

“For over 20 years, Polo on the Green has raised funds to support Variety and its mission of caring for Iowa children,” said Ashley Fuhrmeister, committee co-chair of Polo on the Green. “After canceling this year’s event, we knew we’d have to be creative when thinking of ways to continue to raise funds. We are extremely grateful for our corporate sponsors who have remained true in their commitment to Variety and for those community members who have donated to the fundraiser so far.”

Each year at Polo on the Green Variety conducts a Fund-A-Need fundraising campaign, selecting one area of giving to support. This year, through donor-designated giving, Variety is meeting the broader range of needs children are currently facing by directing funds to multiple areas. Donors are able to direct their donations to impact one of the following categories:

  • Specialized bikes
  • Food insecurity
  • Campership
  • School supplies
  • Traditional bikes
  • General fund

“Although this year’s Polo on the Green has been canceled, the need has not gone away,” said Sheri McMichael, executive director of Variety. “Variety is often the only link for many children to receive the support they need to reach their full potential, which is why it’s so important now more than ever to continue raising funds to provide support for those in need.”
