Variety- the Children’s Charity granted $212,000 to 26 eastern Iowa children’s charities today at its annual grant reception at the Cedar Rapids Marriott.
“I want to thank all those who support Variety and Iowa’s Children,” said Sheri McMichael, Executive Director of Variety- the Children’s Charity. “As a direct result of your generous support, Variety is able to grant funds for projects and programs that will directly benefit the lives of thousands of children”.
Variety funds eight different types of grants; acute, camperships, convalescent, variety at work, preventative, underprivileged, transportation, youth at risk. Organizations that receive Variety grants range in size and focus, but all share the goal of bettering the lives of children in Iowa.
Organizations funded include:
Covenant Three pediatric exam tables with digital scale and nine table top digital pediatric tray scales
Finley Hospital Expansion of Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic
Jones Regional Hospital Software and hardware upgrade for CT machine
Marengo Hospital Panda IRes Bedded Infant Warmer with in-bed scale
Mercy Medical Center Natus ALGO Hearing Screener CertaScan System
St. Lukes Renovations to create the Variety - Education and Simulation Center
Hills & Dales Adaptive bikes and adaptive strollers
Arc of East Central Iowa 15-passenger van
B&G Club – Waterloo Updated kitchen
Cedar Valley Friends of Family Mommy emergency kits, incentives for Mommy and Me nights,
craft supplies, child safety supplies and outdoor playhouse
Handicare Inc. Renovations for a Large Motor Room and therapy equipment
House of Hope Playground equipment
Northeast Iowa Food Bank Backpack food program
Waypoint Educational supplies to enhance learning centers
Arc of Jefferson & Nearby Counties Camperships to Camp Courageous for special needs children
Aspire Equicizer and riding scholarships
Eastern Iowa Arts Academy Music equipment, art supplies and music supplies
Families Inc. Development games, books, workbooks and therapy materials
Systems Unlimited Eight week therapy program for six children
ASAC Items for ASAC’s Heart of Iowa childcare program and a fence for ASAC’s recreation area
Family and Children’s Council Baby and child safety equipment
Foundation 2 New concrete basketball court, backboard and pole
Four Mounds Tools for the Heart Program
Riverview Center Lending Library books, workbooks, interactive games, CDs, DVDs
St. Mark Youth Write Brian Books - a writing curriculum program
Tanager Place Winter Lodge bathroom renovation
